(HUNTINGTON and FREEPORT, N.Y.) – In recognition of March as Women’s History Month in America, Nassau County Legislator Viviana L. Russell (D – Westbury) proudly joined to the Freeport-based Cedarmore Corporation during its annual “Lifting As We Climb” Women’s History Month celebration at Oheka Castle on Saturday, March 21.
For more than 25 years, the Cedarmore Corporation has committed itself to educating, elevating, and empowering local youth to excel in every aspect of their lives. Spanning academics and athletics to financial and holistic wellbeing, Cedarmore provides “dynamic, cutting-edge programming designed to develop tomorrow’s leaders today” through experiential learning.
During the celebration, Legislator Russell presented Nassau County Legislature Minority Caucus Citations to event honorees April Dinwoodie, Andrea De Loney, Chevonne Dixon, Jill Shelhorse, Athelene A. Collins, Emily Romero and Regina Edgeworth-Thompson in recognition of their dedication to community service and commitment to uplifting women. Proceeds from the benefit supported Cedarmore’s Girlz Talk program and other youth enrichment initiatives.
“As parents and community leaders, one of our greatest responsibilities is ensuring that our young scholars have the tools and the confidence to excel and grow to become our next generation of leaders,” Legislator Russell said. “The Cedarmore Corporation has been instrumental in advancing this mission for more than a quarter century, and I am glad to see how the success of their Lifting As We Climb benefit will position them to build upon these efforts.”
