(MERRICK, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Viviana L. Russell (D – Westbury) proudly joined the New York Chapter CHUMS, Inc. for their third annual Women’s Empowerment gala at the Westbury Golf Course Clubhouse on Saturday, March 21. Legislator Russell joined the CHUMS in celebrating extraordinary women, humanitarians, youth empowerment and philanthropists who are making a difference in our communities. Proceeds will support the Chums’ scholarship fund and village projects across New York City, Long Island, and Westchester.
In recognition of the momentous occasion, which featured performances by the Westbury Corps Ensemble and Dance Team, Legislator Russell presented Nassau County Legislature Citations to keynote speaker Vanessa Baird-Streeter, President & CEO of the Health & Welfare Council of Long Island, as well as honorees Carmen Lloyd, Jeannine A. Corbin, and Barbara Edwards.
“For generations, the New York Chums have served as a springboard for women in our region to build friendships, serve their communities, and make a positive impact in the lives of others,” Legislator Russell said. “Their Women’s Empowerment celebration captured the spirit of their noble mission, and I thank Chapter President Melanie Stewart and all of the honorees for their commitment to the ethos of service, scholarship, and sisterhood.”
