(NEW CASSEL, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Viviana L. Russell (D – Westbury) joined the Westbury/New Cassel NAACP, her partners in local government, and the greater community at New Cassel’s Yes We Can Community Center on Monday, Jan. 19 to observe Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The program culminated with a video excerpt of Dr. King’s speech and a service activity spearheaded by the Yes We Can Community Center, Town of North Hempstead employees, and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc, Westbury Pi Pi Omega Chapter and Westbury Chums, Inc.
“The Yes We Can Community Center is more than a building - it is a symbol of collective resilience, shared purpose, and the power of a community that refused to be overlooked,” Legislator Russell said. “It is a living testament to Dr. King’s truth that ‘life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others? ‘and it stands as a powerful example of what can be achieved when a community answers that call and when government works in true partnership with the people it serves.”
