(WESTBURY, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Viviana L. Russell (D – Westbury) met with the leadership team at Reworld’s Westbury waste-to-energy plant on Friday, July 31. There, she received the latest details on the operations of the award-winning Thermomechanical Treatment Facility that processes more than 1 million tons of waste that would otherwise have ended up in landfills.
It was an eye-opening experience for Legislative District 2 intern Nathaniel Jones who was able to see first-hand how our waste turns into new products and energy.
“Being in the Reworld meeting was a really interesting experience. I honestly never realized how much goes into managing waste after it’s picked up, and it was cool to learn about the work being done within my community,” Jones said after the meeting. “It gave me a better understanding of how important sustainability is and how it impacts our communities. I definitely hope to be able to go back and tour the facilities soon to see the work firsthand.”
