(WESTBURY, N.Y.) - On Monday, July 27, Nassau County Legislator Viviana L. Russell (D–Westbury) successfully advanced a $126,000 Community Revitalization Project (CRP) grant for the Westbury Water and Fire District, building upon a funding request initiated by Legislator Olena Nicks. The funds will be applied toward purchasing 30 personal protective equipment (PPE) sets consisting of Morning Pride turnout gear, Lion particulate-blocking hoods, RagTop gloves, Pro Warrington boots, RadioTech portable radio straps/holsters.
“We are incredibly grateful for this grant and the opportunity to provide a second set of turnout gear for our firefighters. This investment is about far more than equipment—it is about protecting the health and safety of the men and women who put themselves in harm's way to protect our community,” said Westbury Fire Department Chief Timothy Stewart. “Having a second set of gear allows firefighters to properly clean and dry contaminated gear between emergency responses, reducing exposure to harmful carcinogens while ensuring they remain ready to respond without delay. This grant strengthens both the safety of our personnel and the efficiency of our emergency operations, and we sincerely appreciate your support of our mission.”
