[ARCHIVED] Legislator Solages Recognizes the Historic Contributions of Haitian and African American Soldiers

Legislator Carrié Solages will commemorate the contributions of Haitian and African American freedom fighters in U.S. War History

WHO: Nassau County Legislator Carrie Solages (D-Elmont)

WHAT: Legislator Solages joins Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages in association with the Military and Law Enforcement Veterans Association (MILEVA), a local nonprofit sponsoring the event, to pay tribute to Haitian and African American soldiers who fought in every war to preserve America’s freedom. The conference will include a lecture and a dramatic presentation of scenes from the Battle of Savannah during the American Revolutionary War. “It is important for people to know that Haitians and African Americans in our country’s military fought bravely to advance the cause of freedom for all in this nation,” says Legislator Solages. “I encourage parents to bring their children to the conference so they can learn about unsung heroes who sacrificed their lives so that we can be free,” emphasizes Solages.

Legislator Solages is the Ranking Member of the Nassau County Legislature’s Veterans & Senior Affairs Committee. His outreach on behalf of veterans includes promoting events such as this conference to educate the public.
