[ARCHIVED] Legislator Solages Urges Residents to Attend the Rockaway Turnpike Public Rally on October 5th

Legislator Carrié Solages will stand side-by-side with elected officials and constituents to advocate for an accelerated construction schedule for NY 878

TO: Local media, community members and supporters

WHO: Nassau County Legislator Carrie Solages (D-Elmont)

WHAT: Legislator Solages will stand with colleagues and constituents to urge the New York State Department of Transportation (NYS DOT) to re-evaluate their timetable for the two phases of major construction scheduled for NY 878 to begin in 2023 and 2027. The estimated construction cost for the necessary improvements are $61 million. Close to 400,000 residents rely on NY 878 as costal evacuation route. “Months ago, I communicated with the New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner as well as federal and local officials about the current construction schedule for NY 878,” says Legislator Solages. “I cannot emphasize enough the urgent need for public and elected officials to work together to move the timetable forward.”

Beleaguered residents in the area surrounding NY 878, especially in Inwood and the rest of the Five Towns community, want this project to be a high priority for the NYS DOT. The rally presents an opportunity for all residents and officials to reinforce their concerns.

WHEN: Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 10 a.m.

WHERE: Five Towns Mini Golf & Batting Range. 570 Rockaway Turnpike, Lawrence, NY 11559
