[ARCHIVED] Legislator Solages Secures Traffic Safety Improvements Throughout the Third Legislative District

Legislator Solages - Traffic Safety Improvements

(NORTH VALLEY STREAM, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D - Lawrence) announces the installation of a series of traffic-calming improvements throughout the Third Legislative District.

Among the most recent improvements completed include new speed indicators on Dutch Broadway at Warner Road and just east of the Elmont Road intersection, where speeding and dangerous driving imperiled the safety of motorists and pedestrians alike.

Legislator Solages also followed through on his pledge to the residents of North Valley Stream’s Dutchgate retirement community to add a traffic light at the intersection of Willow Lane and Lawrence Avenue in front of the complex to address concerns about excessive speeding. He also secured the installation a traffic light on Elmont Road near the parking lot for St. Boniface Church. Department of Public Works (DPW) officials said wiring is still needed at both lights, and they will be activated once that work is complete. Installation of another traffic light at the intersection of Dutch Broadway, Glafil Street and Diamond Street is pending.

In addition, Legislator Solages secured $1.65 million in capital funding for a traffic study focused upon Linden Boulevard in Elmont. While its start date is pending, Legislator Solages is advocating for a status update from the Blakeman administration.

“These improvements are a win-win for the community. I am grateful to my colleagues in government who helped these improvements come to fruition and thank all of the residents who called my office to express their concerns,” Legislator Solages said. “Guided by your feedback, I will continue to advocate for infrastructure investments that will make problem spots on our roads safer for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists alike.”
