[ARCHIVED] Legislator Solages Applauds Reopening of Elmont Road Park

Legislator Solages - Elmont Road Park 2

(ELMONT, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D - Lawrence) celebrated the re-opening of the Town of Hempstead’s Elmont Road Park on Friday, June 17 - an outcome that followed extensive advocacy by Legislator Solages and his colleagues in state government.

Elmont Road Park underwent a $3-million renovation that was funded by New York Arena Partners as part of a community benefits agreement stemming from the development of UBS Arena at Belmont Park. Legislator Solages supported a community petition drive urging the developer to dedicate resources toward improving and beautifying the Town-owned Park, which had fallen into disrepair.

In recent days, the re-opening of the park had become the subject of controversy when Town officials balked at reopening it even though the architect on the project had issued a certificate of substantial completion. The Town ultimately relented and quietly opened the park on Friday morning.

“After years of grassroots advocacy from local residents, it is truly a relief that the new, improved and beautiful Elmont Road Park is now open for families and children to enjoy this summer and for years to come,” Legislator Solages said. “I was proud to stand alongside Senator Kaplan and Assemblywoman Solages in this endeavor and thank them for never relenting in their efforts to do the right thing for Elmont’s residents.”
