(ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) recently participated in the Human Rights & Social Justice Teach-In hosted by Molloy University’s Department of Social Work, where he spoke to dozens of social workers about the unique and vital professional relationship between attorneys and social workers. During his presentation, Legislator Solages focused upon how immigration attorneys work with social workers to validate asylum claims and demonstrate the psychological trauma applicants may face if they return to their home country.

“March is Social Work Month in America, and this year’s theme, ‘Compassion and Action,’ reminds us how social workers are active change agents who uplift individuals, groups, families, communities and organizations through their important work,” Legislator Solages said. “Thank you to Dr. Lisa Zakiya Newland for allowing me to speak to the young student and offering your students the opportunity to intern in my office.
