[ARCHIVED] Solages Joins Men of Elmont, Student Government Leaders at State of the County Address

Legislator Solages - State of the County

(ELMONT, N.Y.) - Members of Elmont Memorial High School’s Student Government and the Men of Elmont student organization joined Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D - Lawrence) for an exclusive in-person viewing of Nassau County Executive Laura Curran’s State of the County address on Wednesday, March 24.

The students, pictured above with Elmont Memorial High School Principal Kevin Dougherty (left) County Executive Curran (center) and Legislator Solages (right) following the speech, joined legislators, senior staff and members of the press as the only people in the high school auditorium during the speech. Elmont had previously been chosen to host State of the County in 2020, but the address was moved off site amidst the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“During an extraordinary 12 months, Elmont Memorial High School’s young leaders have immersed themselves in the key issues facing our County and our nation, and have embraced the power of their voices,” Legislator Solages said. “I am grateful for their ongoing efforts and am heartened to know that our future will soon be in their care. We would all like to thank Mr. Dougherty and his team at Elmont Memorial High School for their partnership during the last two years as we worked together to present a State of the County address unlike any other in Nassau County’s history.”
