(VALLEY STREAM, N.Y.) – As part of National Police Week in America, Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) joined the greater Valley Stream community and his colleagues in government on Friday, May 16 as West Merrick Road and Arlington Park were renamed in honor of fallen Nassau County Police Detective Hector M. Nunez.
Known for his leadership and love for his family, Nunez, a 16-year veteran of the force, died at age 42 on Dec. 8, 2021 after contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty. Earlier in his career, he was recognized by the Nassau County Legislature for his valiant efforts to save a man from a burning deli in Valley Stream.
“Because he was one of the best police officers to serve the communities of the Fifth Precinct, it was truly fitting to recognize his contributions and celebrate his life with this lasting memorial in the heart of valley Stream,” Legislator Solages said. “I am thankful to the Village of Valley Stream and the Nassau County Police Department for bestowing this honor upon him and ensuring that his legacy will live for eternity.”
