(WESTBURY, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Viviana L. Russell (D–Westbury) recently presented a $126,000 Community Revitalization Project (CRP) grant to the Westbury Water and Fire District.
The funding, which was approved by the Nassau County Legislature on July 27, will support the purchase of 30 additional sets of turnout gear, including protective hoods, gloves, boots, and radio equipment. Having a second set of gear enables firefighters to properly clean and dry their equipment between emergency responses, helping reduce exposure to harmful contaminants while keeping them ready to answer the call.
“Our volunteer firefighters put themselves in harm’s way every day to protect our community, and they deserve the resources and support necessary to do their jobs safely and effectively. I am grateful to my colleagues in the Nassau County Legislature for their unanimous support of this grant, and I am so thankful to Westbury Water and Fire Commissioners, Chairmen Rodney Caines, Kelby Then, Barry Green, Chief Timothy Stewart and all our Westbury firefighters for their continued courage, dedication, and selfless service to our community.”
