(WESTBURY, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Viviana L. Russell presented two Community Revitalization Project grants totaling $251,562.90 for the Westbury Union Free School District during visits to school buildings on Thursday, Sept. 17.
$159,562.90 of those funds will be used to build a modern, fully accessible, ADA-compliant playground at Powells Lane Elementary School, and $92,000 will be applied toward completing the bleacher replacement project at the Westbury High School gymnasium.
Nassau County’s schools are more than just places where our young scholars are taught how to read, write, and do math – they are places where they can explore their athletic interests, cultivate their social skills, and come together as a community of learners,” Legislator Russell said. “By creating a new, state-of-the-art playground at Powells Avenue and finishing the bleacher replacement project at the high school, these County funds will be instrumental in fulfilling our shared priority of providing a holistic, comprehensive educational experience for all students.”
