[ARCHIVED] Legislator Bynoe to Co-Host ‘The Road to Success’ Backpack Giveaway in Westbury

Nassau County Police Benevolent Association (P.B.A.), Superior Officers Association & the Nassau County Detectives Association

(WESTBURY, NY) – Legislator Siela Bynoe will co-host ‘The Road to Success’ Backpack Giveaway for the second year in a row, this Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Martin “Bunky” Reid Park, at Broadway & Railroad Streets in Westbury, NY 11590 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

“Once again, I am proud to stand with Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth and Councilwoman Viviana Russell in partnership with the Nassau County P.B.A. to provide free backpacks and school supplies to local children to start the 2015/16 school year,” says Legislator Bynoe. The event will inspire young people to approach education in a fun and positive way and simultaneously presents an opportunity for the community to come together before school begins. “This is a fantastic occasion for young people, the police, and community residents to participate in an event that will foster good relations. It is especially befitting that the event theme is ‘The Road to Success’. This event demonstrates to our young people that parents, police, and the community have a vested interest in making sure they do well in school as well as life,” emphasizes Legislator Bynoe.

For children to receive the free supplies they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please share this important information so the wonderful school supplies can be shared with all of those in need.

This back-to-school celebration will include refreshments. The Nassau County P.B.A., Superior Officers Association, and the Nassau County Detectives Association are sponsoring the backpack giveaway. The Nassau County Traffic Safety Bureau will provide a bike safety activity and training for children ages 6 to 10. WHAT: ‘The Road to Success’ Back Pack Giveaway’s goal is to provide free backpacks to community children to give them the tools they need to succeed in the 2015-2016 school year.

WHEN: Saturday, August 29, 2015 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

WHERE: Martin “Bunky” Reid Park, Broadway & Railroad Streets Westbury, NY 11590*If rain, the event will be held at the ‘Yes We Can’ Community Center in Westbury.

Please help us spread the word out about this great event so the backpacks can get into the hands of children in need. The backpacks, filled with school supplies, are free. All children must be registered and accompanied by a parent or guardian to receive a backpack. One backpack per child in attendance. Legislator Siela Bynoe commends the Nassau PBA for helping to sponsor this great event that will help get kids excited about going back to school and provide them the tools they need to succeed.

“It makes me so proud to know these backpacks will travel home with these students and then on the first day of school and throughout the year into their classrooms where they will learn and grow as Nassau’s future leaders.
