Legislators Mulé and Davis Support Baldwin Lions Club Fire Relief

A second distribution event is scheduled for 3 – 8 p.m. on Monday, July 7.Mule and Davis - Baldwin Fire Distribution

(BALDWIN, N.Y.) – Following a devastating Thursday, June 26 apartment fire in Baldwin that displaced nearly 200 people, Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) and Legislator Scott M. Davis (D – Rockville Centre) joined the greater Baldwin community in supporting the grassroots relief effort being spearheaded by the Baldwin Lions Club.

The day before the Thursday, July 3 distribution event at St. Chistopher’s Church in Baldwin, volunteers sorted donations provided by members of the greater Baldwin community. Powered by the community’s overwhelming response and the continuing need, there will be a second distribution event from 3 – 8 p.m. on Monday, July 7 at St. Christopher’s Church, 15 Pershing Boulevard, Baldwin, N.Y. 11510.

While the Baldwin Lions noted that additional clothing donations are not needed at this time, they are continuing to accept contributions of shoes, nonperishable food items, toiletries, household items, toys and gift cards for daily essentials. The Oceanside Community Warriors will be conducting a supply drive from 9 a.m. – noon on Sunday, July 6 at the Oceanside VFW, 407 Weidner Avenue, Oceanside, N.Y. 11572.

During the week, donations can be dropped off during from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at AllState – Mangal Agency, 914 Atlantic Ave., Baldwin, N.Y. 11510, and 3 – 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturdays at the OMMA Fitness Center 1872 Grand Ave., Baldwin, N.Y. 11510.

“In the aftermath of this devastating blaze, it inspires me to see how the Baldwin community and our entire region is working together to help the hundreds of people whose lives have been turned upside down,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “We still have more work to do and more families to serve – and I encourage our community to keep making contributions and continue spreading the word to victims of this fire about the support that will again be available to them on Monday.”

“The families that were displaced by this devastating fire need our help – and it is uplifting to see how our entire region has answered the call to action and service,” Legislator Davis said. “If you have not done so already and you are in a position to do so, contributing toward this grassroots relief effort will go a long way toward getting everyone back onto their feet. I thank the Baldwin Lions and so many community members for leading the way on this vital effort.”
