(ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Scott M. Davis (D – Rockville Centre) joined the community in congratulating Scouts Troop 214 Star Scout Anthony Yurynets as the Michael Manzella Scout of the Year.
Leaders recognized Yurynets’ embrace of Scouting, which has made him an outstanding leader, ambassador, and recruiter for Troop 214. In the community, he volunteers at the Rockville Centre Library and competes on the Math Olympiads, Computer Olympiads and the robotics team.
The award is named for Michael Manzella, who served as an assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, ASPL and JASM. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1988. A Chaminade graduate, he was the school’s Man of the year in 1989 but tragically lost his life in January 1993 while studying at Yale.
“From a young age, Michael Yurynets has become an embodiment of the spirit of community service in Rockville Centre, and I believe that he is well on his way to becoming an Eagle Scout,” Legislator Davis said. “He is richly deserving of this great honor, and I thank the Manzella family for all they do to support Troop 214 in memory of their beloved son, Michael.”
