WHAT – In observance of Earth Day, Nassau County Legislator Scott M. Davis (D – Rockville Centre) is partnering with NYS Assemblymember Judy Griffin, NYS Senator Siela A. Bynoe, Rockville Centre Mayor Francis X. Murray and an array of community partners to host a community cleanup of Smith Pond in Rockville Centre on Saturday, May 16. (The event was originally scheduled for Sunday, April 26 but postponed due to expected inclement weather.)
Garbage bags and rubber gloves will be provided; participants are encouraged to bring pokers, rakes, grabbers, heavier gloves, and other supplemental tools. To safeguard against ticks and other hazards, attendees are encouraged to wear long sleeves, pants, socks, and other protective attire. Participants are also encouraged to leave all pets at home.
“Smith Pond is a beautiful and tranquil natural treasure that is cherished by Rockville Centre residents and visitors alike, and the response to this community cleanup shows our shared commitment to preserving it for future generations,” Legislator Davis said. “I look forward to seeing everyone on May 16 and working with you to protect our environment and make our Village more beautiful.”
Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to contact Assemblymember Griffin’s office at 516-561-8216 or griffinj@nyassembly.gov.
