(ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y.) – In observance of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) and Legislator Scott M. Davis (D – Rockville Centre) attended AJC Long Island’s “Celebrating Catholic-Jewish Relations and Nostra Aetate 60 Years Later” at Molloy University on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
The event included a conversation between Rabbi Noam Marans and Reverend Walter Kedjierski about Nostra Aetate; a monumental Catholic document that declared the Church would revere God’s work in non-Christian denominations. This 1965 document placed a special emphasis on the improvement of relations between the Catholic Church and Judaism.
“Fostering interfaith cooperation is essential for combating bigotry and making our world more accepting and loving, and the example set by Nostra Aetate is a model for all of us to follow as we seek to build a better future,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “Thank you to AJC Long Island for hosting this informative and inspiring event - your continued leadership is essential in the fight against antisemitism and hatred in our society.”
“If we are to make progress in combatting the disturbing rise of antisemitism in the world around us, people of good conscience and deep faith must work together as one to propel that change,” Legislator Davis said. “Thank you to Molloy University and AJC Long Island for bringing us together for a very impactful discussion in observance of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.”
