(ROCKVILLE CENTRE, FREEPORT, BALDWIN and OCEANSIDE, N.Y.) - In observance of March as Women’s History Month, Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) and Legislator Scott M. Davis (D – Rockville Centre) joined forces with the Freeport, Oceanside and Baldwin Public Libraries and the Rockville Centre Recreation Center to host a supply drive in support of Bethany House’s outstanding work to support women and children experiencing homelessness.

During the month of March, donors contributed paper goods (paper towels, toilet paper, napkins, paper cups/plates), cleaning supplies (garbage bags, disinfectant wipes, cleaning spray, sponges), and nonperishable foods at the four drop-off locations. Legislators Mulé and Davis delivered the proceeds of the drive to Bethany House on Wednesday, April 8.

Bethany House operates shelters in Roosevelt and Baldwin, where they focus on fulfilling a mission of providing safe haven for healing and personal growth for women and mothers with children facing homelessness. To guide clients to more stable lives, permanent housing and self-sufficiency, staff and volunteers deliver trauma-informed services, comprehensive health care and dedicated case management that focuses on educational and employment growth opportunities.

“Compassion drives the mission of Bethany House, where their diligent team does outstanding work to help women and children in Nassau County emerge from the greatest challenges of their lives,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “I am thrilled that the community responded so enthusiastically to our Women’s History Month drive, and I know that the supplies will go to great use in the days to come!”

“Having seen the impactful work of Bethany House firsthand on multiple occasions, I know how imperative it is to support their efforts and equip them with resources to aid Nassau County’s most vulnerable families,” Legislator Davis said. “It was such a pleasure to collaborate with Legislator Mulé and our community partners to support a worthwhile organization that provides such essential support for women and children in their greatest hour of need.”

“We are deeply grateful to Scott Davis and Debra Mulé for their heartfelt efforts in organizing a collection for the women and children of Bethany House. Their kindness and generosity have brought not only essential items, but also a sense of comfort, care, and compassion to families navigating difficult times,” said Katie Swanson, LCSW and Executive Director of Bethany House. “This meaningful act is a beautiful reminder of what can happen when people come together with empathy and purpose. It sends a powerful message to the residents of Bethany House - that they are seen, supported, and not alone. We sincerely thank Scott and Debra for their thoughtfulness and dedication, and for inspiring a spirit of giving that strengthens our entire community.”
