(MINEOLA and ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y.) Nassau County Legislator Scott M. Davis (D – Rockville Centre) proudly welcomed the Rockville Centre Lady Cyclones girls’ volleyball team to the Peter J. Schmitt Memorial Legislative Chamber on Monday, Feb 9 to celebrate their Class A New York State Championship.
Highlights of their 17-1 season included a 3-0 win over Plainedge to repeat as Class A Nassau County champions; a 3-2 victory of Half Hollow Hills West to capture the Long Island title; a 3-1 triumph over Rye to win the Regional Championship, and a climactic five-set match win over Williamsville South to secure the State title.
During their visit, Legislator Davis presented the team with a Nassau County Legislature Citation and each of the athletes with individualized plaques in recognition of the program’s second State title and first in 32 years.
“These outstanding athletes worked incredibly hard and dug down deep in order to prevail,” Legislator Davis said. “Their grit and determination, and the tools the young ladies applied will serve them well long past your years as State champions at South Side High School. While we were delayed by the first major snowstorm of 2026, it was a true privilege to welcome the Lady Cyclones to the Legislature and highlight their remarkable victory.”
