WHAT – In observance of March as Women’s History Month, Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) and Legislator Scott M. Davis (D – Rockville Centre) are joining forces with the Freeport, Oceanside and Baldwin Public Libraries and the Rockville Centre Recreation Center to host a supply drive in support of Bethany House’s outstanding work to support women and children experiencing homelessness.
Now through Tuesday, March 31, donors are invited to contribute paper goods (paper towels, toilet paper, napkins, paper cups/plates), cleaning supplies (garbage bags, disinfectant wipes, cleaning spray, sponges), and nonperishable foods during normal business hours at the Rockville Centre Recreation Center, 111 N. Oceanside Road, Rockville Centre, N.Y. 11570; Freeport Memorial Library, 144 W. Merrick Road, Freeport; Baldwin Public Library, 2385 Grand Ave., Baldwin, N.Y. 11510; or the Oceanside Library, 30 Davison Avenue, Oceanside, N.Y. 11572.
Bethany House operates shelters in Roosevelt and Baldwin, where they focus on fulfilling a mission of providing safe haven for healing and personal growth for women and mothers with children facing homelessness. In an effort to guide clients to more stable lives, permanent housing and self-sufficiency, staff and volunteers deliver trauma-informed services, comprehensive health care and dedicated case management that focuses on educational and employment growth opportunities.
“Compassion drives the mission of Bethany House, where their diligent team does outstanding work to help women and children in Nassau County emerge from the greatest challenges of their lives,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “By working with Legislator Davis and our community partners, we can honor Women’s History Month by making a real difference in the lives of local families.”
“Having seen the impactful work of Bethany House firsthand on multiple occasions, I know how imperative it is to support their efforts and equip them with resources to aid Nassau County’s most vulnerable families,” Legislator Davis said. “I’m proud to be working with Legislator Mulé, our libraries, and the Rockville Centre Recreation Center to honor Women’s History Month through this service project, and I encourage everyone to give with they can.”
