(HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.) – In observance of August at Black Business Month in America, Nassau County Legislators Scott M. Davis (D – Rockville Centre) and Olena Nicks (D – Uniondale) and former Legislator Wayne Wink joined the greater Hempstead Village community at Denton Green on Saturday, Aug. 16 for the second annual Black Wall Street Business Festival. Organized and hosted by the New Greater Hempstead Chamber of Commerce, the event attracted more than 40 Black-owned businesses.
“Having so many innovative and impressive entrepreneurs showcasing their ingenuity is a tribute to Nassau County’s entrepreneurial spirit and powerful statement of Black solidarity that resonates throughout our region,” Legislator Davis said. “As someone who grew up in Hempstead, I am proud that my hometown is home to such an important event, and I thank Dr. LaShawn Lukes and the New Greater Hempstead Chamber for leading the way.”
“I appreciate the New Greater Hempstead Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Lukes and the entire Hempstead community for embracing Black-owned business ventures by cultivating the Black Wall Street Business Festival,” Legislator Nicks said. “As a small business owner myself, I am aware of the various obstacles that may be in place, visibility and access to resources being some. I believe it to be crucial that we continue to support entrepreneurs as they pursue their dreams and lay the foundation for a prosperous future.”
