(MINEOLA and HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.) – In observance of Friday, May 1 as Law Day in America, Nassau County Legislator Scott M. Davis (D – Rockville Centre) welcomed students from the Roosevelt and Hempstead School District to the Nassau County First District Court and the Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building.
The students witnessed court proceedings, and visited the Legislative chambers, the independent Office of Legislative Budget & Review, and spoke with Legislator Davis and Minority Counsel during a lunch-and-learn session following the tour.
Law Day celebrates the rule of law and provides an opportunity to understand how law and the legal process protect our liberty, strive to achieve justice, and contribute to the freedoms that all Americans share.
“Preserving the rule of law requires vigilance and a commitment to mentoring the next generation of young leaders who will defend these institutions for decades to come,” Legislator Davis said. “I can think of no better way to honor National Law Day than an up-close view of the functioning of the courts and their local government, and I thank our local school districts for working with my office and making this opportunity possible.”
