(ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Scott M. Davis (D – Rockville Centre) joined the Rockville Centre community and his colleagues in government at Mill River Park on Sunday, July 26 for the eighth annual “Rise Up for Ryan” basketball tournament and suicide awareness walk.
John and Mary O’Shea created the Ryan Patrick O’Shea Foundation after they lost their 18-year-old son, Ryan, a South Side high School graduate and former Captain of the Cyclones basketball team, to suicide in 2019. The mission of the Ryan Patrick O'Shea Foundation is to increase mental health awareness and education to prevent suicide and provide support to those in crisis to put an end to self-destructive behavior.
“In the aftermath of such a tremendous family tragedy, John and Mary O’Shea have channeled their unimaginable grief into a philanthropic mission that seeks to save lives, give people hope, and honor the memory of their beloved son,” Legislator Davis said. “I admire their courage and conviction greatly, and I am grateful to live in a community that embraces this important cause so strongly.”
