
(HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Scott M. Davis (D – Rockville Centre) joined the Hempstead High School community on Wednesday, June 10 to celebrate the outstanding achievements of the Class of 2026 during this year’s Senior Awards Night. More than $500,000 in scholarships and awards were presented, including the prestigious Gates Scholarship, valued at more than $330,000, which was awarded to senior Melva Ramirez Zavala.
Students were acknowledged across a wide range of areas, including academics, music, art, athletics, community service, leadership, dual enrollment programs, and the New York State Seal of Biliteracy. “The breadth of the awards that were presented to the Class of 2026 gave me further reassurance that our future is in highly capable and caring hands,” Legislator Davis said. “Congratulations to everyone who is graduating from my alma mater – I cannot wait to see what you achieve and how you change the world for the better!”
