(ROOSEVELT, N.Y.) – At the Freeport-Roosevelt Branch of the NAACP’s Juneteenth kickoff celebration on Wednesday, June 17, Nassau County Legislator Scott M. Davis (D – Freeport) and Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) honored the Branch’s Second Vice President and NAACP New York State Conference Education Chair, Christine Waters, for her relentless advocacy for public education.
Since becoming Education Chair in 2019, Waters has distinguished herself through her opposition to federal school voucher programs and championing educational equity and restorative justice for all students.
“Christine Waters is an unrelenting advocate for children who uses her voice to make sure that every child is positioned for success in school and throughout their lives,” Legislator Davis said. “It was especially meaningful to celebrate her contributions during an event commemorating Juneteenth and the advent of equality and liberty for every American.”
“Public education is one of the most powerful tools at our society’s disposal for changing lives and placing children on a path to success, and Christine Waters works tirelessly to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive in the classroom,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “It was a privilege to join Legislator Davis and the Freeport-Roosevelt Branch of the NAACP in celebrating an outstanding community advocate!”
