(UNIONDALE, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) and her staff recently delivered the proceeds of her holiday food drive for The NEST at Nassau Community College. The monthlong drive, which concluded on Dec. 12, was conducted in partnership with the Freeport Memorial, Baldwin and Oceanside Libraries and the Freeport Recreation Center.

Short for “Nassau: Empowerment and Support for Tomorrow,” NEST is a 501 (c)3 not-for-profit organization focused on promoting health and wellness by maintaining a free-choice food pantry that provides food, personal care items and support services to students, employees, and families. Their philanthropic efforts are supported by the College community, Long Island Cares and Island Harvest, corporate donors, civic and religious organizations, and more. Last year, Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé secured a $10,000 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant for The NEST to amplify its hunger-fighting work in the community.

“The success of our annual holiday food drive would not have been possible without the cooperation of our wonderful local libraries and the generous hearts of so many community members who gave so generously,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “I am deeply appreciative for everyone who supported our efforts and grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of local families.”
