(FREEPORT, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) joined students and staff at the Woodward Children’s Center in Freeport on Tuesday, July 7 for a presentation by retired New York Mets and Yankees pitching ace Dwight “Doc” Gooden. During his presentation, Gooden took questions from the audience and spoke candidly about his struggles with addiction and mental health challenges.
“For Mets fans in particular, Doc Gooden is a heroic figure within the roster of the legendary 1986 World Series-winning team, but his commitment to recovery and helping others find their voice is likely his greatest achievement of all,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “As a social worker, the candor and humility he showed was tremendously inspiring, and his advice to students to seek a trusted source of support was guidance that can benefit all of us. I am thankful that the Woodward Children’s Center invited me to join them as Doc shared his story.”
