(WESTBURY, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) proudly joined the Black Educators’ Committee, Inc. on Saturday, April 25 for the organization’s eighth annual Legends Ball at Verdi’s in Westbury.
Founded in 1968, the BEC’s mission is to engage in meaningful community service and provide scholarships to deserving students who are pursuing higher education. Recipients at the Legends Ball are chosen based on their demonstrated commitment to upholding this mission by uplifting youth and fostering positive community relationships.
The evening’s honorees were Dr. Francis S. Abel, Jr., Jeffrey Johnson, Donald Turner, Nicholas L. Ashe, Dr. Brock Mayers, Matthew Swinson, Reginald Carolina, Gerald Williams, and Brian Eric Smith.
“Representation is essential in all walks of life, but there are few places where it can be more impactful than in educational settings,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “Thank you to President Vashti N. Burke and Chairs Angela Dickens and Dr. Linda Thomas-Baston for your leadership and for organizing this celebration of education’s transformational power!”
