Legislator Mulé Secures $300K for Phase 3 of Freeport Armory

(FREEPORT, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) secured unanimous passage of a $300,000 Community Revitalization Program (CRP) grant for the Incorporated Village of Freeport on Monday, July 27. The funds will be applied toward continuing work to establish a trade school at the former Armory, and will address asbestos testing and monitoring, window, door and roof replacement, electrical service to the property and the installation of heating units.

Initial phases of the renovation project have made way for the Armory to host the Rising Stars Youth Foundation, which seeks to change the lives of local youth and their families through team sports and education. Rising Stars utilizes 16,000 square feet of the Armory, where they host activities including basketball, volleyball, pickleball and more, host Rising Stars events, and serve as a universal sports hub for the greater Freeport community.

“Freeport’s Armory has unlimited potential to become a multifaceted hub for the Village and our greater region, and these funds will help prepare this historic site for its next phase of service,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “I thank my colleagues for unanimously supporting this latest investment in our community’s future.”
