(BALDWIN and FREEPORT, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) and Legislator Scott M. Davis (D – Rockville Centre) put their green thumbs to work during a series of four community cleanups in Baldwin and Freeport on Sunday, May 3.
The day began at 9 a.m. at Milburn Creek in Baldwin, followed by a 9:30 a.m. cleanup at Silver Lake Park in Baldwin, a 10 a.m. gathering at Brookside Preserve in Freeport/Baldwin, and a 10:30 a.m. event at Loft’s Pond Park in Baldwin.
Community partners sponsoring the events include the Offices of New York State Senator Siela A. Bynoe and Assemblymember Judy Griffin, Operation SPLASH, the South Shore Conservation Society, the Freeport/Merrick Rotary Club, The Green Army, the Girl Scouts of Nassau County (Freeport), the Environmental Rotaract of Nassau County, students from Freeport and Baldwin High Schools, and more.
The cleanups were originally scheduled for Saturday, April 25, but were delayed due to inclement weather. In a bit of serendipity, the new date fell one day after the observation of “I Love My Parks Day.”
“In the Nassau County Legislature, we have worked diligently to deliver essential resources for the preservation of Baldwin and Freeport’s natural treasures, and we are committed to preserving their beauty for all to enjoy,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé said. “I was thrilled that the community responded so enthusiastically to our community cleanup series and worked so hard to make this a great success!”
“Nassau County’s parks are a source of natural beauty and tranquility that enrich our lives and our planet in so many ways – and it is incumbent upon all of us to roll up our sleeves and do our part,” Legislator Davis said. “We are all thankful to the dozens of volunteers who joined us in making a real impact on our communities.”
