
(FREEPORT, OCEANSIDE and MINEOLA, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé congratulated outstanding members of the Freeport and Oceanside Fire Departments for their commitment to community service during the Nassau County Fire Commission’s Firematic Awards ceremony on Tuesday, April 14.
In Freeport, Firefighter Stephen Palermo received the Class I Gold Award for rescuing an entangled victim from an Oct. 23, 2025 apartment building fire, and the Oceanside Fire Department was presented with a Unit Citation for rescuing workers who were crushed by heavy machinery during an Aug. 25, 2025 incident.
“Nassau County’s firefighters bravely step up to serve their communities, and their willingness to rush toward danger at a moment’s notice is truly commendable,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “It is always a privilege to recognize their selfless efforts and thank them for their unwavering commitment to protecting us all.”
