Good afternoon – the following is a statement from Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) -
“As a social worker and a Legislator, I am deeply concerned about the future stability of Nassau University Medical Center – a true lifeline for Nassau County’s most vulnerable residents in their moments of greatest need. This Level 1 trauma center – and its drug treatment resources and world-class burn center – form an essential link in our regional healthcare matrix that must not only be preserved but strengthened for the benefit of all our communities.
I commend Governor Kathy Hochul for taking long-overdue action to dismantle the political patronage mill that jeopardized NUMC’s survival and backing up those reforms with a $110 million investment that will place this vital healthcare hub the path to stability and success. Moreover, I thank my former Legislative colleague, Senator Siela Bynoe, for her diligent and unwavering advocacy for the future of Nassau’s only safety net hospital.
