(FREEPORT, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) joined the Freeport and Baldwin communities at the Milburn Boat Launch on Sunday, Sept. 13 for the annual carboard boat race.
During the friendly nautical competition – which relies entirely on ingenuity in the absence of hardy seaworthy materials – participants of all ages test whose cardboard vessel can carry its captain the furthest before meeting a soggy demise. Steady rain on the day of the event added another layer of challenge to the already-daunting task.
“For nearly three decades, the Cardboard Boat Race has grown to become a cherished community tradition that embraces creativity, friendly competition, and most certainly, a good sense of humor!” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “I look forward to this event ever year, and I am always impressed by the array of homemade cardboard boats that our neighbors bring with them to test their luck and skill. Congratulations to Sanitary District No. 2 and The Irish Pub for another successful event!”
