Legislator Mulé Applauds $75K STOP-DWI Grant for Freeport PD

(FREEPORT, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) applauded the Monday, Sept. 14 enactment of a $75,000 STOP-DWI Foundation grant for the Freeport Police Department.

Under the contract, Freeport PD will receive $15,000 per year annually through 2030 to bolster checkpoints during holiday periods, with a focus on preventing roadway injuries and fatalities caused by impaired driving. The grant program is administered by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Board.

“Drunk and impaired driving is entirely preventable, and sustained outreach and enforcement initiatives like the STOP DWI Foundation grant program have made tremendous strides toward instilling a zero-tolerance attitude for this destructive decision,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “I am glad that these grants were approved unanimously and that significant funding will be coming to Freeport to keep our streets safe.”
