(OCEANSIDE, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) joined her Legislature colleagues, Police Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder, and Nassau County Police Benevolent Association (PBA) leaders in honoring Fourth Precinct Officers Cory Gottlieb and Alexander Von Kiel as the Nassau County PBA’s Legislative “Top Cops” on Monday, Oct. 21.

On Aug. 8, Officers Gottlieb and Von Kiel observed a late model Ford Explorer with New Jersey plates stopped in the right lane of Merrick Road. During a subsequent traffic stop, the officers discovered the driver was in possession on assorted law enforcement paraphernalia, including handcuffs, a gold badge stating, “concealed carry permit,” multiple “NYPD School Safety” uniforms and a document stating, “Pistol Permit – Shoot First Clearance”.

The officers also discovered a metal baton, metal knuckles, metal knuckle knives, counterfeit money, miscellaneous gun parts, ammunition, handcuffs, and dangerous narcotics including heroin, cocaine, methadone, amphetamine, and dextroamphetamine pills.

Moreover, while being processed at the Fourth Precinct, police determined that the suspect had an open arrest warrant out of Somerset County, New Jersey.

“This incident is a sobering reminder that there is no such thing as a ‘routine’ traffic stop for our law enforcement professionals,” Legislator Mulé said. “By calling upon their keen observational skills, outstanding training, and consummate professionalism, a dangerous situation was diffused and a fugitive from justice was apprehended. On behalf of all of my constituents, I applaud Officers Gottlieb and Von Kiel for their outstanding police work and their commitment to serving and protecting the residents of Nassau County.”
