WHAT – In response to community concerns following last month’s deaths of a significant number of birds at Milburn Pond Park, Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D - Freeport) is hosting a community cleanup at the Baldwin pond on Saturday, March 28. The cleanup follows investigations by the Nassau County Department of Health and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
Garbage bags and rubber gloves will be provided; participants are encouraged to bring pokers, rakes, grabbers, heavier gloves and other supplemental tools. To safeguard against ticks and other hazards, attendees are encouraged to wear long sleeves, pants, socks, and other protective attire. Participants are also encouraged to leave their pets at home.
“Area residents were rightly concerned by last month’s events, and we are committed to doing everything we can to protect natural community treasures like Milburn Pond Park,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “That is why we are hosting this community cleanup, and I invite you to join me as we roll up our sleeves to make a positive impact.”
Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to RSVP with Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé’s office at 516-571-6206 or dmule@nassaucountyny.gov.
