Wednesday, May 6th is National Nurse Day. Nassau County has been one of the hardest hit areas during the COVID-19 pandemic, and our dedicated healthcare workers have been essential in saving lives on the front lines of this outbreak. Nurses throughout Nassau County and New York State have heroically put their own health at risk to help others. While in the past, nurses have always been essential to our community’s health, their service and sacrifice has been amplified during this health crisis.

In Nassau County’s 11 hospitals, nurses are working tirelessly to keep us safe and healthy. On May 6th, Legislator Bill Gaylor, and the members of the Nassau County Legislature joined with New York State Nurses Association Representatives, CSEA representatives, and nurses throughout the County to unveil a community #ThankANurse social media initiative to show the great healthcare workers of Nassau County that we appreciate what they are doing. The Legislator encourages residents from across the county post an encouraging message on social media with the #ThankANurse Hashtag to show their appreciation.

Legislator Gaylor offered the following: “While nurses have always been on the forefront of protecting our community’s health, their service and sacrifice has been amplified by their heroic work on the front lines of the COVID-19 outbreak. That is why today, on National Nurse Day I am proud to join with nurses from across the county to announce my #ThankANurse social media campaign. Until midnight tonight, visit my Facebook page “Legislator Bill Gaylor” and share my National Nurse Day graphic with an encouraging message and #ThankANurse, or make your own post with the same Hashtag to express your gratitude for those who risk their own health and safety every time they put on their scrubs."

Lynne Kramer, CSEA Local 830 Vice President-NUMC Unit President offered the following:

“It’s a great day in Nassau County to be recognizing the healthcare heroes that take care of everyone day in and day out. It’s a thankless job, and I think it’s right that we recognize all the hardworking nurses during this pandemic. They have been amazing and we can’t ask for better people in this world to take care of us. I thank them, and I thank everyone for recognizing their work.”
