[ARCHIVED] Statement from Abrahams: C.E Blakeman Must Stop Playing Dangerous Political Games with Public Safety

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - On Wednesday, July 20, 2022, Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Kevan M. Abrahams (D - Freeport) issued the following statement:

“Today’s attacks from County Executive Blakeman have absolutely no credibility because this is an issue that is entirely of his own creation.”

“It is a matter of public record that the Minority Caucus offered no fewer than a dozen times during Monday’s Legislature meeting to authorize nearly $15.5 million in new borrowing for our law enforcement professionals and first responders. Had he agreed to address this funding separately, we would have passed it unanimously while we negotiated a fair and complete capital plan amendment.”

“Unfortunately, our request was repeatedly rebuffed and rejected. The Minority Caucus is ready to reconvene and approve these bonds for police and first responders the moment County Executive Blakeman changes his mind.”

“Clumsy attempts at political extortion will not coerce us into accepting incomplete and inadequate investments in the communities we serve - especially when they are needed to address long-standing pedestrian and traffic safety issues. County Executive Blakeman must immediately stop playing dangerous political games with public safety and start working with us to deliver the infrastructure and safety improvements that every Nassau resident deserves.”
