[ARCHIVED] Statement From Minority Leader Kevan M. Abrahams on Unanimous Vote to Expand Property Tax Exemption

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - On Wednesday, Sept. 7, the Nassau County Legislature voted unanimously to increase the maximum income eligibility cap for individuals applying to receive the Senior Citizens and Persons with Limited Incomes and Disabilities tax exemptions to $58,400 from its current threshold of $37,400. This outcome followed months of sustained advocacy by the Minority Caucus to raise the cap.

Following today’s vote, Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Kevan M. Abrahams (D – Freeport) issued the following statement:

“As a result of today’s unanimous vote, property tax relief is on the way for thousands of additional Nassau County homeowners,” Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Kevan M. Abrahams (D – Freeport) said. “We thank Governor Hochul and our partners in the New York State Senate and Assembly for their efforts to make it more affordable for deserving senior citizens and homeowners to continue living in Nassau County. I am hopeful that County Executive Blakeman will promptly sign this into law so that residents can immediately begin reaping the benefits of these exemptions.”
