[ARCHIVED] Statement from Minority Leader Kevan M. Abrahams and Legislators Denouncing Ted Nugent’s Rally

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - The following is a joint statement from Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Kevan M. Abrahams (D - Freeport) and Legislators Siela A. Bynoe (D - Westbury), Carrié Solages (D - Valley Stream), Debra Mulé (D - Freeport), Ellen W. Birnbaum (D - Great Neck) and Arnold W. Drucker (D - Plainview) -

“Ted Nugent is a bigot.”

“During his life in the public eye, Ted Nugent has consistently espoused racist, misogynistic, homophobic, anti-Semitic and xenophobic bile. The vitriol he espouses is an affront to the promise of ‘liberty and justice for all’ that is central to our nation’s Pledge of Allegiance. He is the last person who should ever have the high honor of performing the National Anthem before any public gathering in Nassau County’s most prominent park.”

“Not only are we disgusted that such a hateful man has been invited to besmirch the public square with his presence - at a facility maintained using the tax dollars of Nassau residents, no less - we are outraged that the Nassau County Police Benevolent Association has offered Ted Nugent what amounts to a hero’s welcome.”

“The Nassau County PBA’s embrace of Ted Nugent is a slap in the face to the nearly 1.4 million Nassau County residents that their members have taken an oath to serve and protect. They must disavow this vile man immediately, disinvite him from Saturday’s rally, and apologize to Nassau County residents for their appalling lack of judgment.”
