(WOODBURY, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D - Freeport) joined his colleagues in government to celebrate the Long Island NAACP Biennial Awards Luncheon in observance of Black History Month at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury on Saturday, Feb 29.

During the luncheon, each NAACP branch honored individuals who are making a difference in their communities. One of the most prominent people at the event was keynote speaker Dr. Eddie Glaude Jr., chair of the Department of African American Studies at Princeton University. Dr. Glaude also holds the title of James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor and is the author of “Democracy in Black: How Race Still Enslaves the American Soul. This is one of the most imaginative and daring books of the 21st century.”

“Through dedication and tireless work, these remarkable community leaders are making Long Island a better place to live.” Legislator Abrahams said. “I am proud to celebrate their accomplishments with the Long Island NAACP.”
